Our approach to treatment
We are doing needle exchange to support the health of people who
are still using, as well as their families and sexual partners.
Lots of people find that quitting drugs improves their lives. BUT,
this does not work for everyone, and it's an individual decision.
We do not push people to get into treatment, and we help those who
choose to do so by giving referrals, advocacy, and someone to talk
to about the issue. All services are confidential and we don't need
anyone's name to give them services.
Because Oregon state law prohibits the distribution of syringes
to a minor: We ask that people who are under 18 do not exchange
needles. People under 18 may use other harm reduction services.
People can bring in other people's syringes. In fact, we encourage
this.
Sana Neighborhood Needle Awareness & Clean-up program
Biweekly volunteer biohazard clean-up program aimed at providing safe pick-up and disposal of used needles. It is a project of the HIV Alliance and Sana Needle Exchange. The Sana Neighborhood Needle Awareness & Clean-up program provides:
- Removal of needles from different sites
- Biohazard containers for volunteers
- Group, neighborhood, or individual training on safe biohazard clean-up and disposal
If you have found syringes please call for safe pick up and disposal.
