Insurance Information

There are many types of insurance and medical assistance programs for people living with HIV. The following are some of the most common. Please contact a Care Coordinator if you have any questions regarding insurance or medical assistance programs.

CAREAssist

This is the State of Oregon AIDS Drug Assistance Program. This program may assist you with the cost of insurance premiums, co-pays and deductibles. Eligibility is based on income. See their web page for additional information.

Medication Bridge Program

Individuals who are not yet members of CAREAssist and need emergency coverage for prescription medications related to their HIV care may be eligible for up to a 90-day supply through the Medication Bridge Program. This program can also assist with medical visits and lab work necessary to determine appropriate HIV treatment regimens.

Oregon Medical Insurance Pool (OMIP)

This is Medicaid in Oregon. Low-income Oregonians may be eligible for any of these three Oregon Health Plan (Medicaid) programs administered by DHS.

  • The OHP Plus program is for people who are aged, blind, disabled, under age 19, pregnant or receiving Temporary Assistance for Needy Families benefits.
  • The OHP Standard program covers a limited number of low-income adults who don't qualify for traditional Medicaid.
  • The Children's Health Insurance Program is for children and adolescents younger than 19 living in households with incomes below 185 percent of the federal poverty level.

Medicare

You may be entitled to Medicare if you are over 65 or have been receiving Social Security Disability payments for 2+ years. NOTE: If you are a Medicare beneficiary, you must enroll in Medicare D to receive prescription coverage. See link below.

Low Income Subsidy- This program can assist with the cost of your Medicare D plan. Apply at www.ssa.gov

Qualified Medicare Beneficiary (QMB)

This program helps medicare beneficiaries pay for their medical care. QMB includes 2 different benefit packages. See the following link for more information.
