Testing
HIV Alliance is excited to now offer HIV Rapid Testing for Men who have Sex with Men and partners of HIV+ folks.
Similar to the OraSure Conventional test, the OraQuick Rapid test is an oral antibody test. That means it tests for the presence of HIV antibodies in your saliva. Antibodies are usually present 3-6 months after becoming infected with the virus. The big difference, however, is that with the Rapid test you get your results in 20 minutes.
- Not to worry, results are over 99% accurate.
- If your result comes back 'reactive' for HIV antibodies your result is considered to be a 'preliminary positive' and an additional confirmatory test is needed.
- HIV Alliance will cover the cost for any confirmatory testing at Oregon Medical Labs.
- You and your counselor will discuss whether or not you feel ready to receive your results in 20 minutes and if you don't feel up to it, the conventional two-week wait time frame for test results is always available.

In collaboration with the Testing and Counseling program
we offer Free HIV tests to the MSM community. In an effort to meet
the particular needs of MSM, we ensure that our counselors are queer
and sex positive, and offer MSM the possibility of testing with a
gay/bi/queer identified counselor. During these testing sessions we
are able to make referrals that are appropriate for MSM. Testing for

Community Building
One of the largest components of reaching and supporting MSM is by
supporting the local MSM community. This is both a means of getting
prevention messages to MSM and of helping create a community that
supports MSM in making healthy behavioral changes. We must continue
to support the larger Queer community in issues of queer rights, issues
of poverty, employment, healthcare, education, etc. For example, throughout
the month of January, the HIV Alliance will be hosting weekly Gay
Movie Nights. This is a low-cost and effective way of building community
and supporting leaders in the queer community who take the initiative
to facilitate and organize groups and events.
