- HIV Alliance serves 9 counties in Oregon; in these 9 counties there are a combined total of 710 reported cases of individuals living with HIV/AIDS
- Only 45.2% of Oregonians ever report having been tested.
National
- 1 in 5 MSM living in a big city are infected with HIV; 50% don’t know their status.
- Individuals infected through heterosexual contact account for 31% of annual new HIV infections and 28% of people living with HIV.
- Higher Risk populations in the United States, including men who have sex with men, injecting drug users, and immigrants, have the rates of new HIV infections in the world.
- Over 56,000 people are newly infected with HIV every year in the United States, 21% will go undiagnosed.
World
- Since the beginning of the HIV/AIDS epidemic, almost 60 million people have been infected with HIV and 25 million people have died of HIV-related causes
- The number of new HIV infections continues to outstrip the numbers on treatment—for every two people starting treatment, five more become infected with the virus.
- In sub-Saharan Africa the HIV/AIDs epidemic has orphaned more than 14 million children.
