About Client Services at HIV Alliance:
Client Services provides support, advocacy, referral services and
emergency financial assistance to people living with HIV/AIDS in
Lane County.
Fortunately, living with HIV is not what it once was. HIV medications
help people living with HIV/AIDS live longer, healthier lives. Client
Services helps individuals create the healthiest standard of living
possible by helping them develop a plan for living with HIV. Case
Managers assist clients in assessing and prioritizing needs and
accessing the necessary community resources to see that such needs
get met.
Our Client Newsletter is now online. (6 page, pdf format, 3.9MB)
Our Philosophy:
Case Management is:
Holistic
Our ultimate goal is to help clients stabilize and maintain their
health. We recognize that physical health is dependent upon emotional,
social and spiritual well-being. We also understand that when
basic needs such as food and shelter are not met, it is difficult
to remain healthy. As a result, we look at health as a whole and
help clients meet a variety of prioritized needs.
Client-centered
HIV Alliance is a safe place where clients can access services
without judgment on the basis of their race/ethnicity, socioeconomic
status, sexual orientation, gender identity, or past/current drug
use. Furthermore, our assistance is based on client-identified
priorities. Individuals create their own plan for creating a healthy
standard of living and Case Managers help them meet their needs.

Our Funding:
Client Services is funded through the Ryan White Care Act--federal
dollars designated to assist individuals living with HIV/AIDS. In
addition to Ryan White funds, the HIV Alliance utilizes grants and
private donations to help clients stabilize and maintain their health.
Emergency Financial Assistance:
On a limited basis, Client Services assists eligible clients with
emergency financial assistance. Eligibility for our financial assistance
is based on Oregon Ryan White guidelines, which state clients must
be at or below 250% of the Federal Poverty Level. Finally, since
Ryan White funding is required to be "dollars of last resort,"
Case Managers must first assist clients in finding alternate sources
of assistance when available. Emergency financial assistance is
available for the following services:
- Medical Care
- Medication
- Dental care
- Housing
- Utility Assistance
- Transportation
- Food
- Alternative Healthcare
- Alcohol and Drug Treatment
- Counseling
FAQs
I just moved into town, how do I become a client?
Contact a case manager at 541-342-5088 to schedule an intake appointment.
Be sure to bring your photo ID, proof of income, insurance card and
HIV verification to your appointment if you have them.
I was recently diagnosed with HIV and I don't have insurance,
what should I do?
Although the Oregon Health Plan currently has limited enrollment,
other options do exist. Contact a case manager for more details.
I have health insurance through work but my co-pays are really
expensive and I can't afford to get my medication, is there any
way to get help?
There is a program in Oregon called CAREAssist (aka ADAP) that can
assist you with the cost of premiums and co-pays. Contact Client
Services or use the link for DHS HIV Client Services below for more
information.
Do I have to be "clean and sober" to become a client?
No. We may recommend you kick the habit but if don't want to or
are not ready, we're still here to help.
I have HIV and live in Coos County, where can I get assistance?
Contact your local County Health Department to find out where to
get HIV case management services in your area.
What does being a "client" of HIV Alliance's Client
Services mean?
Once you are enrolled in our program you are eligible for case management,
advocacy, financial assistance and our referral services. Since
your enrollment in the program is voluntary, you can discontinue
services at any time.
I have insurance and am financially stable but don't know anyone
else living with HIV, where can I meet people that understand what
I am going through?
The HIV Alliance has a weekly social group for people living with
HIV/AIDS. With a referral from a case manager you can attend the
group even if you don't need our other services.
I am on Medicare which does not have prescription drug coverage
and my HIV medications alone are over $1600 each month. What kind
of assistance is there for prescriptions?
There are a few of options for getting your medications covered. For
example, you may be eligible for free medications from the pharmaceutical
company. Contact an HIV Case Manager or the drug company to find out
how to apply. |
